Design Principles

WSUP Programme Design Principles

WSUP follows a set of key design principles, which define our approach and reflect our values:

  • Partnerships are central.

  • Commitment from the government and service provider to delivering improved services to the urban poor.

  • Scale: focus on representative scale as a stepping stone to city wide and universal coverage.

  • Sustainability: long term sustainablility is critical and central to WSUP's approach and programming. An environmentally responsible approach is taken to the impact a programme may have on the local ecosystem.

  • Integration in all programmes including WASH and capacity development.

  • Demand drives programming from the community level to the service provider and in all aspects of the programmes.

  • Effectiveness and impact driven programming. The proposed solution is effective, affordable and meets the needs of the poor. Programme impact is assessed through detailed monitoring and evaluation.
